Pirates Roll Past Mustangs in Convincing Nine-Bill Victories
NORTH DELTA, BC - April 19, 2026
The North Delta Pirates delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against the Cowichan Valley Mustangs with back-to-back 9–3 and 9–2 victories. Powered by dominant starting pitching and a balanced offensive attack, the Pirates controlled both games from the outset, continuing to build momentum early in the season.
Game one saw left-hander Liam Jones set the tone with an impressive outing on the mound. Jones worked five strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out four and consistently getting ahead in counts. His ability to generate swings and misses—highlighted by a high number of swinging strikes—kept the Mustangs’ lineup in check and allowed the Pirates to steadily build their lead. Eliaz Murti pitched the sixth and seventh innings and earned the save.
Offensively, North Delta struck early and often in the opener. Contributions came from throughout the lineup, with Scott Ormston, Jones, Max Bergen, and Connal Grant each helping drive in runs during the first three innings. The Pirates finished with 11 hits, showcasing depth and consistency at the plate. Payton Harper and C. Grant led the way with multi-hit performances, while aggressive base running added further pressure on the Mustangs’ defense.
The second game followed a similar script, with the Pirates once again jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. A three-run first inning, highlighted by extra-base hits from Harper and Jack Riley, set the tone. North Delta continued to add on in the second and third innings, building a commanding advantage behind timely hitting and disciplined at-bats that produced both contact and walks.
Noah Grant was dominant on the mound in game two, delivering four scoreless innings while striking out six and issuing no walks. He was supported by a strong bullpen effort, as C. Grant, J. Riley, and Calvin Mattu combined to close out the game in relief. The pitching staff excelled at attacking the strike zone early and stranding runners, limiting the Mustangs’ opportunities to mount a comeback.
At the plate, the Pirates once again displayed depth and versatility. Tyler Conway led the offense with three hits, while Harper added another multi-hit performance. The team’s speed was a major factor, with North Delta swiping 11 bases and consistently putting pressure on the opposition. Lucas Stebbings and Matthew Sarkessian stood out defensively, anchoring a clean fielding performance in the second game.
Across both contests, the Pirates demonstrated a complete team effort—combining strong starting pitching, effective bullpen work, and a relentless offensive approach. With decisive wins in both games, North Delta continues to establish itself as a confident and cohesive group, building positive momentum as the season progresses.
