Pirates Drop a Pair to Upstart Vancouver Mounties White

NORTH DELTA, BC - May 3, 2026

The North Delta Pirates faced a strong test Sunday afternoon, hosting the Vancouver Mounties White in a doubleheader at Mackie Park. Taking on a team that entered the day undefeated at 8-and-0, the Pirates competed hard in both contests before falling by scores of 7–2 and 15–1. Despite the lopsided final outcomes, North Delta showed stretches of strong play and resilience against one of this year’s top clubs.

Game one was a tightly contested matchup through the middle innings, with both teams locked in a low-scoring battle early. Pirates starter Liam Jones delivered a solid outing, limiting the Mounties to minimal damage over the first few innings and keeping the game within reach. Defensively, North Delta was sharp throughout, turning in a nearly clean performance in the field and consistently making the routine plays.

The Pirates found a key moment in the fourth inning, when Jack Riley executed a well-placed sacrifice bunt to bring home the tying run. Noah Grant led the offensive effort with a pair of hits, while Tyler Conway and Riley each contributed an RBI. North Delta generated steady contact at the plate and kept pressure on the Mounties’ pitching staff, but Vancouver was able to systematically capitalize on opportunities late to pull ahead for the win.

In game two, the Pirates again showed their ability to compete early against a formidable opponent. Starter N. Grant was impressive through the opening three innings, striking out seven and allowing just two unearned runs while keeping the Mounties’ lineup off balance. His command and ability to miss bats highlighted the Pirates’ strength on the mound against a high-powered offense.

North Delta continued to battle offensively, with Murti delivering a perfect 2-for-2 performance from the bottom of the lineup and N. Grant adding an RBI in the bottom of the third to draw them within one. The Pirates showed patience and composure at the plate, working to generate opportunities against a deep Mounties pitching staff but as the game progressed, Vancouver’s lineup found its rhythm, and a series of Pirate errors in the fourth and fifth innings spelled North Delta’s doom and they succumbed in a mercy finish on one of the warmest May games in recent record.

Facing one of the league’s hottest teams, the Pirates demonstrated determination, discipline, and flashes of strong execution in all phases of the game; however, they also continually created uphill battles for themselves. In the first game they gave up too many base on balls. In the second, North Delta simply didn’t give themselves a chance to win, committing far too many errors on routine fielding plays and everything that Vancouver hit seemed to drop in between fielders.

On the positive side, the Pirate’s ability to keep both contests competitive throughout the first half of both games underscores the group’s potential as the season continues. With another home game on the horizon on Tuesday versus the expansion Surrey Bears, North Delta will have to look to build on today’s experiences and translate them into results in the coming matchups. For the first time since early in the season the Pirates entered high performance play in 2024, they find themselves in unfamiliar territory on the outside looking in at other teams that hold provincial berths. With over three quarters of the season remaining, there is time to bounce back to the form they expect of themselves but to do so, their execution will need to take a big step forward.
