Experience, determination, and a team-first attitude …

Matthew Sarkessian — #12

Catcher | Infield | 5’8”, 192 lbs | Bats/Throws: Right/Right | Hometown: Surrey, BC

For Matthew Sarkessian, baseball has never just been a sport — it’s been a steady part of growing up. Now in his first season with the North Delta Pirates, the Grade 12 catcher brings nearly a decade of experience and a mindset built on effort, accountability, and commitment to improvement.

Matthew’s baseball journey began in Whalley Little League, where he first discovered his passion for the game. From there he moved to the Surrey Canadians, continuing to refine his skills and meet new teammates, before spending two seasons with the Langley Bluesox, gaining valuable experience and confidence. Each stop along the way helped shape his understanding of the game and the teammate he strives to be. Entering his senior year, he hopes to finish his high school baseball career strong with the North Delta Pirates.

Primarily a catcher and infielder, Matthew prides himself less on statistics and more on what he brings to a team environment. He identifies his greatest strengths as hard work, teamwork, and dedication — qualities that show up in his willingness to give consistent effort both in practices and games. He approaches the season with the belief that improvement comes from showing up ready to compete every day and supporting teammates at every opportunity.

Away from the field, Matthew stays active with a wide range of interests. He enjoys playing soccer and basketball, spends time snowboarding, and, like many students balancing athletics and school, unwinds with gaming in his free time. Despite a busy schedule, he places real importance on academics, believing education is essential to long-term success.

Matthew is a player who always gives 100% on and off the field and he is committed to continuing to get better, and he values both baseball and academics. He is someone who understands that growth in the classroom is just as important as development on the diamond.

As a first-year North Delta Pirate, Matthew Sarkessian arrives with experience, determination, and a team-first attitude — the kind of player every roster needs and every clubhouse appreciates.
