Pirates Show Heart and Grit with Dramatic Doubleheader Sweep Over Thunder 2
COQUITLAM, BC - May 9, 2026
The North Delta Pirates delivered one of their most important performances of the young season Saturday afternoon, sweeping a crucial doubleheader against TC Thunder Team 2 with dramatic come-from-behind victories by scores of 7–6 and 4–1. Entering the day with a 5–4 record and battling for positioning in the provincial playoff race, the Pirates responded with resilience, composure, and timely execution against a direct competitor also chasing a berth.
Game one featured a remarkable comeback effort from North Delta after the Pirates found themselves trailing by five runs early. Despite the deficit, the group remained composed and steadily chipped away before erupting for six runs in the fourth inning to completely swing the momentum. The breakthrough inning showcased the Pirates’ depth and determination, highlighted by a two-run double from Scott Ormston and a two-run single from Connal Grant that turned the game and put the Pirates ahead by one.
The Pirates continued to press their advantage in the fifth inning when Noah Grant launched a towering solo home run to left field, extending North Delta’s lead and energizing the dugout. Grant and Ormston each finished with two RBIs, while Eliaz Murti and Ormston both collected multi-hit performances. On the bases, Lucas Stebbings added pressure with aggressive running that helped keep the Thunder defense on edge throughout the game.
North Delta’s pitching staff also played a critical role in securing the opener. After starter E. Murti battled through the early innings, Jack Riley provided a steady and composed relief effort over the final three innings to help preserve the narrow victory. The Pirates showed poise under pressure, responding to adversity with confidence and finding ways to execute in key moments.
The second game unfolded very differently, turning into a tightly contested pitchers’ duel that remained deadlocked deep into extra innings. Thunder starter Leroux was outstanding, throwing more than eight innings and recording 16 strikeouts, while Pirates ace N. Grant matched him inning for inning. N. Grant delivered a dominant seven-inning outing of his own, striking out 11 batters while allowing just one run on three hits in a performance that kept North Delta within striking distance all afternoon.
Trailing 1–0 entering the seventh inning, the Pirates finally broke through when a determined N. Grant hit a double and stole third. Then Stebbings delivered the clutch RBI single to tie the game and force extra innings. In the ninth, North Delta capitalized on its opportunity, with Stebbings once again providing the decisive hit—a two-run double that gave the Pirates their first lead of the game. The offense added an insurance run moments later to seal the victory.
Out of the bullpen, S. Ormston closed the door with two scoreless innings to earn the win, while the Pirates backed their pitching staff with flawless defense throughout the game. Matthew Sarkessian anchored the fielding effort as North Delta completed a clean defensive performance. The sweep not only lifted the Pirates well above .500, but also demonstrated the grit, maturity, and competitive character of a team determined to remain firmly in the provincial playoff hunt.
