Sweet Finish on Mother’s Day as Pirates Battle Chuckers to Key Doubleheader Split

NORTH DELTA - May 10, 2026

The North Delta Pirates earned an important split Sunday afternoon against the Richmond City Chuckers, battling one of the league’s top teams in a pair of tightly contested games at Mackie Park. Facing a Richmond club that entered the day with an impressive 8–2 record, the Pirates responded with steady and disciplined baseball throughout the doubleheader, narrowly falling 5–3 in the opener before rebounding with a strong 4–2 victory in game two.

In the first game, North Delta found itself trailing early after Richmond capitalized on opportunities in the middle innings to build a 4–1 advantage. The Pirates remained composed and gradually worked their way back into the contest, showing resilience and determination as the game progressed. Aggressive baserunning and timely at-bats kept the pressure on Richmond throughout the afternoon.

North Delta mounted its biggest push in the sixth inning, scoring twice to close the gap to 4–3 and put the tying run within reach. Lucas Stebbings once again sparked the offense with his speed on the bases, stealing three bags while also driving in a run. Payton Harper, Tyler Conway, Noah Grant, and Scott Ormston each contributed hits as the Pirates continued to battle against a strong Richmond pitching staff. Although the Chuckers added an insurance run in the seventh, North Delta remained competitive until the final out.

The Pirates carried that momentum into the second game, where starting pitcher Eliaz Murti delivered one of his strongest outings of the season. Murti threw a complete seven-inning game, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs while working efficiently throughout. His command and poise on the mound kept Richmond hitters off balance and allowed the Pirates to control the pace of the game from the opening inning onward.

North Delta jumped ahead early with a three-run first inning fueled by contributions from across the lineup. Runs from Conway, Harper, and Stebbings gave the Pirates immediate momentum, while Murti helped his own cause offensively with a key RBI single. The Pirates maintained that advantage deep into the game thanks to strong defensive play and disciplined execution in all phases.

Defensively, Harper turned in a standout performance in the outfield, making several remarkable catches that helped preserve North Delta’s lead during key moments. The Pirates also continued to pressure Richmond on the bases, collecting six stolen bases while executing smart situational baseball. In the sixth inning, Tevin Bentley added an important insurance run with a sacrifice bunt that brought home Stebbings.

Richmond mounted a late rally in the seventh scoring two runs but it was two little, too late. North Delta stayed composed and closed out the 4–2 victory to secure the split. Against one of the top-performing teams in the league, the Pirates showed maturity, balance, and confidence throughout the day. The result continues the club’s positive momentum as they strengthen their position in the highly competitive provincial playoff race.
