Pirates Edge Bears 4–3 Behind Strong Pitching and Clutch Early Offense
NORTH DELTA, BC - May 5, 2026
The North Delta Pirates earned a 4–3 victory over expansion team Surrey Bears on Tuesday night at Mackie Park, improving their record to 5–4 on the season. While the matchup presented a determined challenge from the Bears, the Pirates demonstrated composure and timely execution to secure the win in a game that ended up more tightly contested than expected.
North Delta opened the scoring in the second inning, capitalizing on a key opportunity as Liam Jones delivered a clutch single to drive in two runs. Hitting out of the lower portion of the lineup, Jones’ contribution proved pivotal, giving the Pirates an early edge and setting the tone for a game that would require contributions from throughout the roster.
On the mound, Eliaz Murti turned in a strong starting performance, working four scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out five to earn the win. Murti consistently attacked the strike zone and generated swing-and-miss, helping the Pirates control the tempo early. His outing provided a solid foundation before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Relievers Lucas Stebbings and Scott Ormston carried the effort forward, navigating key moments late in the game to preserve the narrow lead. Ormston earned the save. The Pirates’ pitching staff showed strong command overall, throwing strikes at a high rate and stranding multiple runners on base. Their ability to limit damage in high-pressure situations proved to be a defining factor in the outcome.
Offensively, North Delta received balanced production, with five different players recording hits. Payton Harper, Noah Grant, Matthew Sarkessian, and Ormston each contributed at the plate alongside Jones, as the Pirates worked to create scoring chances against a steady Bears pitching performance. While opportunities were limited, the lineup made the most of its key moments.
Defensively, the Pirates delivered a clean and composed effort, playing error-free baseball and executing routine plays with confidence. Sarkessian lead the team in defensive chances and helped anchor a steady infield performance behind the pitching staff.
By staying disciplined and composed throughout, North Delta was able to close out a one-run game and build positive momentum heading into their upcoming matchup against the TC Thunder.
