North Delta Pirates Deliver Impressive All-Around Performance in Pre-season Doubleheader Versus Surrey Bears
NORTH DELTA, BC - March 29, 2026
The North Delta Pirates squad delivered an impressive all-around performance Sunday afternoon, sweeping a pre-season doubleheader against the Surrey Bears with energy, discipline, and depth on display across both games.
In the opener, the Pirates showcased a dominant effort in an 11–1 victory, highlighted by an outstanding day at the plate from lead-off hitter Tyler Conway, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with a mix of singles and a double, while number two batter, Noah Grant, walked four times. Together in their eight plate appearances they reached base eight times.
North Delta struck early, plating runs in the first inning and steadily building momentum through the middle frames with timely hitting and exceptional plate discipline. Contributions came throughout the lineup, with Jack Riley, Payton Harper, and Calvin Mattu each playing key roles offensively, while the team’s aggressive baserunning created additional pressure, resulting in seven stolen bases.
On the mound, the Pirates’ pitching staff set the tone. Starter Liam Jones delivered two hitless innings, and a trio of relievers—Tevin Bentley, Riley, and Mattu—combined to effectively close out the game. The staff generated consistent swing-and-miss, with multiple pitchers recording high swinging-strike totals, and worked out of key moments to limit Surrey’s opportunities. Defensively, North Delta was sharp and composed, turning in a clean performance in the field.
Game two saw the Pirates continue their strong play in a 9–5 win, fueled by another balanced offensive effort. The team broke the game open in the second inning with a string of well-executed at-bats, as Scott Ormston, Riley, and N. Grant each drove in runs. Riley and N. Grant led the way with multi-hit performances, while Mattu anchored the middle of the order with two RBIs. The Pirates consistently applied pressure, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and maintaining control of the game.
North Delta’s pitching remained a key strength in the second contest. Starter Eliaz Murti was efficient and effective, allowing just one hit over two innings while throwing strikes early in counts and keeping hitters off balance. The bullpen continued that trend, with N. Grant delivering a scoreless relief appearance, striking out all three batters he faced. As a staff, the Pirates emphasized attacking the zone and inducing ground balls, limiting Surrey’s ability to generate sustained offense.
Across both games, the Pirates demonstrated a strong blend of offensive production, disciplined pitching, and confident team play—an encouraging sign as they look forward to the season-opening double header against Vancouver Mounties Blue on April 4th and their home-opening double header against Langley Township on April 5th.
