Pirates Finish Regular Season on a High Note, Clinch Sixth Seed for Provincial Championships

CHILLIWACK, BC - July 20, 2026

The North Delta Pirates closed out their 2026 regular season in convincing fashion Monday evening, defeating the Chilliwack Cougars 9-0 in a rainout makeup game to finish the year with a 20-16 record. More importantly, the victory officially locked the Pirates into sixth place in the BC Minor Baseball 18U AAA standings and secured the third seed in Group B for this week's Provincial Championships at Aldergrove Athletic Park.

It was the type of complete performance the Pirates had been searching for as they prepare for the biggest weekend of their season. Strong pitching, timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and crisp defense all came together in a well-rounded effort that showcased the depth North Delta has developed over the course of a season filled with challenges, growth, and resilience.

Three first-year pitchers combined to shut down the Cougars' offense from start to finish. Jack Riley earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two. Connal Grant followed with three impressive innings of relief, surrendering only one hit while striking out four, before Scott Ormston closed the door to complete the shutout. Together, the trio limited Chilliwack to just two hits while keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard throughout the evening.

The Pirates' offense wasted little time providing support. North Delta opened the scoring with a three-run second inning as Riley singled home the game's first run, Payton Harper later drew a bases-loaded walk, and another run crossed on a wild pitch. The visitors added another run in the third when Tevin Bentley delivered an RBI single before steadily pulling away behind patient at-bats and pressure on the basepaths.

North Delta finished with 12 hits and seven walks, creating scoring opportunities throughout the lineup. Harper paced the offense with two hits, two RBIs, and two walks, while Riley, Tyler Conway, and Ormston each added two-hit performances. Bentley continued to be a disruptive force on the bases, swiping three bags as the Pirates accumulated six stolen bases on the night. Defensively, North Delta also turned a timely double play to preserve the shutout.

The victory marked the Pirates' 20th win of the season—a milestone that seemed far from certain just weeks ago. Battling injuries to key pitchers, a tightly contested provincial qualification race, and one of the province's toughest July schedules, North Delta continued to respond when it mattered most. The club closes the regular season playing some of its most complete baseball, with contributions coming from veterans and first-year players alike.

Now, the focus shifts to the Provincial Championships, which begin Thursday in Aldergrove. The Pirates enter the tournament as the third seed in Group B and will face three formidable opponents in pool play: second-place Tri City Thunder 1, third-place Richmond City Chuckers, and seventh-place Cowichan Valley Mustangs. The top two teams from the pool will advance to Sunday's semifinals, with the provincial championship game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. After a season defined by perseverance and steady growth, the Pirates have earned the opportunity to compete for a provincial title—and they'll head into the tournament believing they are capable of making a deep run.
