Athletic talent, baseball intelligence, and a commitment to continuous growth …
Jack Utsunomiya — #3
Pitcher | Infield | 6’1”, 168 lbs | Bats/Throws: Left/Right | Hometown: North Delta, BC
For Jack Utsunomiya, competition has always been about preparation, execution, and embracing opportunities to improve. Entering his ninth season of baseball and his first with the North Delta Pirates, this Grade 10 athlete brings a unique combination of athletic talent, baseball intelligence, and a commitment to continuous growth that has made him successful both on and off the diamond.
Born and raised in North Delta, Jack has spent his entire baseball career playing in Delta, building a strong foundation in the game while developing a deep appreciation for the community that helped shape him as an athlete. One of his most memorable baseball experiences came when his team swept the U13 Western Qualifiers and earned the opportunity to compete at Western Championships. The accomplishment remains a highlight not only because of the success itself, but because it demonstrated what can be achieved when a group of dedicated players works together toward a common goal.
Primarily a pitcher and infielder, Jack is known for his strong command and accuracy on the mound. He prides himself on understanding game situations, anticipating where plays need to be made, and executing under pressure. His quick reaction time, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and strong baseball instincts allow him to make difficult plays look routine. More importantly, he approaches the game as a student, constantly learning, adapting, and looking for ways to elevate his performance.
While baseball is an important part of his life, Jack is also an accomplished hockey player. A goaltender at the academy prep level, he has signed with the WHL's Penticton Vees and will be moving to the Okanagan this fall to attend OHA while pursuing his goal of earning a roster spot with the organization. The demands of competing at a high level in two sports have taught him discipline, resilience, and time management—qualities that translate seamlessly between the rink and the baseball field.
Away from athletics, Jack has a passion for music and travel. He enjoys exploring a wide variety of musical genres, learning lyrics, and discovering new artists. He has traveled extensively throughout Western Canada for hockey and has enjoyed numerous family trips to Mexico. Looking ahead, one of his biggest personal goals is to visit Japan and experience its culture firsthand.
If a scout were reading his profile, Jack would want them to know that he is a coachable athlete who welcomes feedback, works hard to apply what he learns, and is determined to become one of the best players on any team he joins. He views improvement as a daily process and embraces the challenges that come with competition. For post-secondary institutions, he would want them to understand that while baseball is one of his passions, he values the broader experience that comes from being a multi-sport athlete and enjoys competing simply because he loves the game.
As he begins his journey with the North Delta Pirates, Jack Utsunomiya brings a rare combination of athletic ability, intelligence, humility, and determination. Whether on the mound, in the field, or on the ice, he approaches every challenge with focus and purpose, making him an exciting addition to the Pirates program and a player with a bright future ahead.
