North Delta Pirates Stay in the Hunt for First with Key Win over Vancouver Mounties White
VANCOUVER, BC – July 15, 2025
The North Delta Pirates kept their regular season first-place hopes alive Tuesday evening, grinding out an 8-5 win over the Vancouver Mounties White at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver. With the victory, the Pirates remain just a half-game back of the first-place Richmond City Chuckers, maintaining pressure in the tight race for top spot with only four games left in the regular season.
With a high-ranking berth in the provincial tournament on the line, North Delta wasted little time getting on the board. In the top of the first, Payton Harper grounded out to bring in the opening run, followed by a sacrifice fly by Kesler Curtis and a heads-up tag-up from Noah Grant that put the Pirates up 2-0 early.
Lefty Liam Jones set the tone on the mound, delivering four steady innings while allowing just one unearned run on four hits. He struck out one and issued no walks, keeping the Mounties off balance before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Relievers Cole James and Grant finished the job, preserving the lead in the late innings. Jones got the win.
Offensively, the Pirates racked up 11 hits. James and Tevin Bentley both delivered clutch RBIs with two apiece, while Noah Saunders sparked the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Grant added a pair of hits of his own in another strong two-way performance.
Despite the loss, the Mounties White showed defensive sharpness, playing error-free ball behind starter Cole Cu, who lasted six innings and struck out five. Wilfred Hogan led the Mounties’ offense with a 3-for-4 night, continuing his impressive stretch at the plate.
With the win, the North Delta Pirates improves its record and inches closer to the Chuckers as the regular season winds down. The Pirates now shift their focus to Saturday’s road matchup against the surging Victoria Seawolves and Tri City Thunder — both pivotal clashes as they look to finish the season strong and secure a top seed heading into provincials.
