Wilson Notches Two Grand Slams - Heroics Reignite North Delta Pirates Quest in Crucial Sweep Over Langley Township
LANGLEY, B.C. — July 12, 2025
With their once-dominant season slipping into dangerous territory, the North Delta Pirates arrived in Langley this past weekend facing a crossroads. A 23-6 start had placed them in contention for top spot in the standings, but four losses in five games had exposed cracks in a team with provincial championship ambitions. As they prepared for a key doubleheader against the Langley Township Blue Sox on Saturday, it wasn’t just wins the Pirates were after—it was a return to form.
And they found it.
Behind a monster performance from slugger Connor Wilson and a pair of commanding starts on the mound, North Delta emphatically snapped out of their slump with back-to-back blowout wins, 14-2 and 14-0, at Walnut Grove Community Park.
Game 1: Pirates Ride Wilson’s Slam, Curtis’ Arm in Statement Victory
Game one set the tone early, as North Delta jumped ahead in the first inning and never looked back. After a Payton Harper groundout and a sacrifice fly from Noah Grant put two runs on the board, the Pirates exploded in the second. With the bases loaded, Wilson delivered a six-pitch at-bat that ended with a no-doubt grand slam to right field, putting the Pirates up 6-0 and sending a message that the offensive engine was running again.
Kesler Curtis gave the team exactly what they needed on the mound, scattering four hits and allowing just two runs (one earned) over six strong innings while striking out six. Wilson wasn’t done after his second-inning blast—he added an RBI double in the fourth to cap a five-RBI performance, and even pitched in relief.
Tevin Bentley, Grant, Dakota Simicak, Wilson, and Harper all recorded multi-hit games, and North Delta drew 12 walks in a patient, disciplined showing at the plate. Simicak also added two stolen bases and the Pirates turned a crisp double play in the field, reinforcing a complete team effort.
Game 2: Another Grand Slam, Another Blowout
If the first game was a reawakening, the second was a full-blown revival. North Delta struck early and often, scoring six runs in the first inning on a flurry of hits from Cole James, Tyler Conway, Eliaz Murti, and Eric Halliburton. But it was Wilson again who delivered the knockout blow—a grand slam to center field in the fifth inning, his second of the day, driving in four more runs and capping off a 10-RBI doubleheader.
Simicak was electric on the mound, fanning nine over five shutout innings and allowing just three hits. He also led off the game with a three-hit effort at the plate, setting the tone for a relentless Pirates offense that racked up 15 hits without committing an error in the field.
“It was a big weekend for us,” said a Pirate supporter. “We knew we needed to reset, refocus, and respond—and the guys did exactly that. Connor had one of the best individual days I’ve seen at this level, and our pitchers were locked in.”
Looking Ahead
With the sweep, North Delta moves to 25-6 on the season and remains firmly in the hunt for first place in the standings. More importantly, they appear to have rediscovered the swagger and cohesion that made them early-season contenders.
They’ll look to keep the momentum rolling Tuesday when they visit the Vancouver Mounties White, with the provincial championship tournament now just a couple of weeks away.
After Saturday, it’s clear the Pirates still have their eyes on the banner—and the firepower to chase it.
