North Delta Pirates Sweep Vancouver Mounties Blue in Doubleheader, Improve to 16-3 on the Season

After weather washed out a scheduled pair of games against the Cloverdale Rangers on Saturday, the North Delta Pirates entered back into action with a doubleheader sweep of the Vancouver Mounties Blue on Sunday at Mackie Field. The Pirates took Game 1 in a tightly contested pitchers' duel, 2-0, before unleashing their offense in an 8-1 victory in the nightcap, improving their league-leading record to 16-3.

In the opener, Kesler Curtis delivered a masterclass on the mound, striking out 13 while allowing just two hits and three walks over a complete seven-inning shutout. Curtis was in full command from the outset, holding the Mounties off the scoreboard and giving his team all the support they needed. Offensively, the Pirates struck early—Tyler Conway was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning - a play that resulted in Noah Grant trotting over home plate to count the game’s first run. Cole James added an RBI double down the left-field line in the third. Grant led the bats, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while the Pirates played flawless defense behind their ace.

Game 2 saw the Pirates’ offense heat up. After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning on a RBI single, North Delta answered with a two-run fourth and pulled away with a six-run outburst across the fifth and sixth innings the was catalysed by a number of Vancouver fielding errors. James and Conway again came through with RBIs, while Eliaz Murti, Lucas Stebbings, and Grant also added to the offensive surge.

Dakota Simicak picked up the win in relief, striking out nine over five-and-two-thirds innings while giving up just one run on three hits. Grant had started the game but exited due to an (undisclosed) lower body injury after a dominant one-and-one-third innings where he started with four straight strike-outs. The Pirates’ staff combined for 13 strikeouts in the game.

At the plate, North Delta tallied seven hits, led by Noah Saunders with two hits. The Pirates again committed no errors, with Saunders providing steady defense behind the plate.

The North Delta Pirates return to Mackie Field next Sunday to host the Ridge Meadows Royals in what promises to be another key matchup in league play.
