Pirates Sweep Royals to Improve to 18-3, Set Stage for Showdown with Richmond
DELTA, B.C. — The North Delta Pirates kept their dominant season rolling on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Ridge Meadows Royals at Mackie Field to improve their record to 18-3. With convincing 15-1 and 5-1 victories, the Pirates remain a top contender as they prepare for a pivotal matchup against the first-place Richmond Chuckers next weekend.
In Game one, the Pirates wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in a lopsided 15-1 win. North Delta scored in each of the first four innings, including a six-run fourth fueled by disciplined plate appearances and timely hitting. Noah Grant led the charge with a two-run double and three RBIs overall, while Kesler Curtis and Dakota Simicak also drove in three runs, and the Pirates lineup combined for 10 hits and 10 walks.
On the mound, Grant delivered a strong start, allowing just one run on three hits over four innings, striking out eight. Connor Wilson pitched a clean inning in relief to close out the win.
Game two was a tighter contest early on, with the score tied 1-1 in the fifth before the Pirates pulled away with a four-run frame. Grant once again came through with a go-ahead RBI single, and a pair of wild pitches along with a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Conway provided insurance.
Cole James started the game, giving up just one hit over four innings while striking out five. Simicak starred in relief to shut the door, tossing two scoreless innings and striking out three, earning the win. Eliaz Murti closed the game in the final inning, retiring three straight batters.
Simicak also starred at the plate across both games, collecting four hits, four RBIs, two stolen bases, and a walk. Wilson, Payton Harper, and Conway all contributed multi-hit performances in Game two, while the Pirates' defense remained sharp all afternoon, committing just one error in the doubleheader.
Meanwhile, the Richmond Chuckers took four out of four games against the North Shore Lions over the weekend to move into top spot in the standings at 19-5, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown against the second-place Pirates this coming Sunday at Mackie Field.
With first place on the line and both teams in top form, next weekend's doubleheader promises to be one of the season's most exciting matchups.
