North Delta Pirates Sweep Kelowna Sun Devils in Doubleheader, Improve to 9-1 on the Season

KELOWNA, B.C. — The North Delta Pirates continued their torrid start to the 2025 campaign, sweeping both ends of a Sunday doubleheader against the Kelowna Sun Devils at Edith Gay Park in dominant fashion. Fueled by a relentless offense in Game 1 and clutch pitching in Game 2, the Pirates pushed their record to an impressive 9-1 to open the season.

Game 1: Pirates Explode for 16-1 Rout

North Delta wasted no time in the opener, unloading for 16 runs on 14 hits in a lopsided 16-1 victory. The Pirates put up five runs in the top of the first and broke the game wide open with a 12-run third inning that featured a carousel of RBI contributions. Noah Saunders led the charge at the plate, driving in four runs on three hits, including a bases-clearing double and a sacrifice fly in the same inning.

Lefty Cole James was dominant on the hill, striking out 10 and allowing just one run over five innings of work, earning the win. He also helped his own cause at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Liam Jones added two hits and three RBIs, while Payton Harper, Tyler Conway, and Dakota Simicak chipped in with key hits during the third-inning outburst. Simicak also swiped two bags as the Pirates flashed their speed and depth up and down the lineup.

Game 2: Pitching and Timely Hits Seal the Sweep

In the back half of the twin bill, North Delta leaned on solid pitching and timely hits to secure a 6-3 win. After falling behind early, the Pirates reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning thanks to a clutch RBI double from James and a sharp single from Eliaz Murti. Harper added two hits and a pair of RBIs to pace the offense, while James continued to shine with two more hits and another run driven in.

Kesler Curtis took the mound to start and battled through six innings, striking out six while surrendering just three runs on five hits and earned the win. Dakota Simicak closed things out in style, striking out the side in a clean seventh to earn the save.

Defensively, the Pirates were flawless, committing zero errors in Game 2.

Kelowna’s Ethan Johnston and Brodie Dawe offered some resistance with early RBIs in Game 2, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a North Delta team firing on all cylinders.
