North Delta Pirates Sweep Tigers in Penticton Doubleheader with Late-Inning Heroics and Offensive Firepower
PENTICTON, B.C. — The North Delta Pirates continued their strong start to the season with a gritty pair of wins on Saturday, sweeping the Penticton Tigers in a doubleheader at Carmi Park. North Delta came from behind to edge Penticton 6-5 in the opener before riding a steady offensive attack to a 10-5 victory in Game Two.
In the first game, the North Delta Pirates showcased their resilience, erasing an early 3-0 deficit and reclaiming the lead with a three-run rally in the fifth, thanks to two RBIs from Noah Grant and key RBI singles from Payton Harper and Cole James. After Penticton’s Linden Moore tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom half, James came through again in the sixth with a clutch RBI double to seal the win.
Grant battled through five innings on the mound, striking out seven to earn the win, while Eliaz Murti closed the door with two scoreless frames for the save. James and Grant led the offense. James went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Grant went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Harper collected two hits. Moore was a bright spot for Penticton, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including his game-tying blast.
The North Delta Pirates carried that momentum into the second game, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead when Lucas Stebbings hit a ground ball that scored two runs, but it wasn’t all good news for North Delta. Stebbings sprained his ankle beating out the throw to first and had to be carried off the field where he was immediately ushered to Penticton’s hospital where the sprain was confirmed. After James scored the go-ahead run in the second they never looked back. Liam Jones delivered a workmanlike performance on the mound, scattering four hits over six innings to earn the win, while Dakota Simicak tossed a clean seventh in relief.
North Delta’s offense stayed patient and persistent, drawing nine walks and spreading the damage throughout the lineup. Kesler Curtis drove in two runs, and Harper and Noah Saunders each tallied two hits. Penticton again leaned on Moore and Evan Sanders, who combined for four hits and four RBIs, but it wasn’t enough to stave off the Pirates’ attack.
With the sweep, the North Delta Pirates improved to 7-and-1 on the season and head to Kelowna on Sunday to take on the Sun Devils in another road matchup.
