North Delta Pirates Open RiverCity Classic with 5–2 Win Over Penticton Tigers

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The North Delta Pirates kicked off the Kamloops RiverCity Classic Tournament in strong fashion on Friday, downing the Penticton Tigers by a score of 5–2 at Canada Games Field on McArthur Island Park.

The Pirates wasted no time getting on the board, manufacturing two runs in the bottom of the first inning via a pair of productive groundouts. Cole James brought home the opening run and later added another RBI in the third inning on a fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 3–0.

On the mound, Liam Jones delivered a solid outing to earn the win. The left-hander tossed five-and-two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three and walking two. Eliaz Murti came on in relief to record the save, closing the door on a late push by Penticton.

Offensively, James led the way with two RBIs, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Murti and Noah Grant each chipped in with two hits with Grant also scoring twice batting from the number two position. Dakota Simicak drew a pair of walks as part of the Pirates’ six total free passes. Lealand Bottyan added pressure on the basepaths, swiping two bags.

For Penticton, Linden Moore took the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) over four innings. He struck out three and walked four. Offensively, the Tigers were led by Moore and Evan Sanders, who each drove in a run. Josh Ouellette, James Mohoruk, Ben Grundy, and Nash Carrigan also collected hits in the loss.

With the win, the North Delta Pirates are off to a 1–0 start in round robin play. They will face the Webber Wildcats in their next tournament matchup on Saturday at Canada Games Field in Kamloops.
