It’s a home run! North Delta Pirates take two on Mother’s Day Weekend against the North Shore Lions.

WEST VANCOUVER — The North Delta Pirates took both games of a Saturday doubleheader against the North Shore Lions at Ambleside Park, earning 3-0 and 11-5 victories to improve to 12-2 on the season. Dominant pitching in the opener and a power-packed offensive outburst in the second game highlighted a complete team performance from the visiting Pirates.

Game one was a pitcher’s duel that saw southpaw Liam Jones turn in a strong performance for North Delta. Jones went the distance, scattering seven hits across seven shutout innings while striking out eight and issuing no walks. The Pirates gave him all the run support he would need in the top of the first when Noah Grant drove in two runs with a single. Cole James added insurance in the third with an RBI single down the left field line. Offensively, the Pirates collected eight hits, with James, Kesler Curtis, and Payton Harper each tallying two. Grant drove in two of North Delta’s three runs to pace the offense.

The nightcap belonged to Harper, who put on a show at the plate with a four-RBI performance that included a two-run, 320-foot homer in the third inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth. After falling behind early, North Delta clawed back with a pair of runs in the fourth to retake the lead, and then blew the game open in the seventh with a five-run inning sparked by timely hits and heads-up base running.

Curtis was lights-out in relief, striking out 10 over five innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. He earned the win. James started the game, giving up three runs (one earned) in two innings of work, and was retired for the day for injury relief.

Grant led the way with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate in game two, while Tevin Bentley added two hits and two RBIs. North Delta ran aggressively all day, stealing multiple bases in both contests.

And, in traditional North Delta form, the Pirate players honoured the mothers that were able to attend the games on Mother’s Day weekend with flowers, photos and hugs.

The North Delta Pirates now turn their attention to the Kamloops 2025 RiverCity Classic Tournament, where they’ll seek a tournament victory. In their first game, the Pirates will face the Penticton Tigers on Friday.
