North Delta Pirates Blank Webber Wildcats 5–0, Move One Step Closer to Semifinal Berth at RiverCity Classic

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The North Delta Pirates continued their dominant start at the Kamloops RiverCity Classic Tournament with a convincing 5–0 shutout win over Alberta’s Webber Wildcats on Saturday at Canada Games Field at McArthur Park.

The win improves the Pirates to 2–0 in round-robin play and all but guarantees a spot in Sunday’s semifinals. A victory in tonight’s matchup against Prince George would secure the top seed in their pool.

North Delta set the tone early, striking in the opening frame with an RBI single from Cole James. They tacked on another run in the second when Noah Saunders delivered a base hit to make it 2–0. The Pirates added three more insurance runs over the course of the game, giving their pitching staff more than enough support.

Starter Noah Grant turned in a strong performance on the mound, tossing three shutout innings while allowing just two hits, striking out four and walking one. Dakota Simicak was equally sharp in relief, throwing two-and-one-third scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Connor Wilson came on to close out the final frame and preserve the shutout.

Grant also did damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Wilson added to the aggressive base running, helping the Pirates tally eight steals on the day. Defensively, the Pirates were flawless, committing no errors and turning a key double play behind strong play from catcher Saunders.

Tyson Finnerty was the lone bright spot for the Wildcats, going 2-for-3 in the loss. Webber starter Aidan Rogers pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking out five over seven innings.

North Delta will return to action Saturday evening against Prince George, with a semifinal spot already in sight — and the top seed in their pool on the line.
