Experience Beyond Measure. Commitment Without Condition.

Alex McKay — Assistant Coach

Experience Beyond Measure. Commitment Without Condition.

When Alex McKay returned to the North Delta Pirates in 2025, it felt less like a new chapter and more like a homecoming. For many players, parents, and coaches across North Delta and the Lower Mainland, Alex has never simply been just a coach.  He has been a constant presence in the fabric of local baseball.

His first season behind the Pirates’ dugout immediately showed the impact of that presence. The 2025 Pirates finished with an outstanding 28–8 record, but those inside the organization would tell you the wins only tell part of the story. The greater success was in how the team played — prepared, confident, disciplined, and connected to one another.

Alex brings a rare combination to a youth program: elite baseball knowledge paired with an educator’s patience. He teaches the why behind the game. Mechanics matter but understanding matters more. Players quickly learn that every pitch sequence, defensive alignment, and baserunning decision has a purpose. Under his guidance, baseball becomes not just a sport, but a system of thinking.

A Teacher of the Game

Alex is known across the Lower Mainland as someone players seek out long after their seasons end. His instruction goes beyond drills. He helps athletes learn how to read pitchers, anticipate game situations, and understand strategy — skills that separate participants from competitors.

His approach is simple but powerful:  develop the player by developing the baseball mind.

He emphasizes:

  • situational awareness

  • preparation habits

  • respect for teammates

  • accountability to the game

Many Pirates players describe practices with Alex as challenging but empowering. He expects effort, but he also provides clarity. Players leave not just tired — they leave smarter.

A Builder of Confidence

One of Alex’s defining strengths is recognizing potential early and reinforcing it consistently. Younger athletes often arrive unsure of their place on a competitive roster. Alex works deliberately to change that.

He coaches belief.

Whether it’s a pitcher learning to trust a breaking ball, a catcher managing a game, or a hitter approaching an at-bat with a plan, his coaching helps players slow the game down. The result is not only improved performance, but athletes who carry confidence into school, work, and life beyond baseball.

Commitment to Community

Alex’s impact extends far beyond one team. For years he has invested time across local programs, helping players at multiple age levels and mentoring younger coaches. His reputation is built not on a single season, but on consistent service.

The Pirates also benefit from another part of Alex’s commitment. His company, ProStock Athletics, supplies the team’s uniforms and equipment, ensuring players are outfitted to compete at a high level while maintaining the professional standard the program represents. For Alex, this isn’t business; it’s another way to support the athletes and the organization he believes in.

More Than Wins

The Pirates’ success in 2025 confirmed what the community already knew: Alex improves teams. But his lasting contribution isn’t measured in standings.

Former players stay in touch. Families seek his advice. Coaches ask for guidance. He treats each athlete not as a season-long responsibility, but as a long-term relationship.

His philosophy is clear:  baseball is a vehicle for learning discipline, resilience, and respect.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As the Pirates enter the 2026 season, Alex returns not simply as an assistant coach, but as a stabilizing presence: a teacher, mentor, and advocate for the players wearing the Pirates uniform.

His goal remains unchanged:  help players become better ballplayers and better people.

The scoreboard may show wins and losses.

The community sees something else — a coach who gives his time, his knowledge, and his heart to the game and to the athletes who play it.
