North Delta Pirates Sweep Doubleheader Versus Tri City Thunder, Set Sights on Provincial Glory

The North Delta Pirates closed out their 2025 regular season in commanding fashion on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader against the Tri City Thunder at Mackie Park to finish with an impressive 28-8 record. With the two wins, the Pirates secured third place in the 17-team BC 18U AAA league - just one win behind the North Island Cubs and two back of first-place Richmond City Chuckers. The trio spent the season locked in a tight battle atop the standings, swapping places week after week in what has been a thrilling year at the top of the leaderboard.

Game one of the day saw the Pirates flex their offensive muscle in a 13-5 victory. After falling behind early, North Delta exploded in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Connor Wilson’s two-run single and a bases-loaded walk from Kesler Curtis. Though Tri City managed to even the score by the fifth, the Pirates roared back with a five-run bottom half - sparked by a clutch double from Curtis and a pair of RBI singles from Noah Saunders and Tyler Conway. Liam Jones got the start on the mound, going four innings and allowing just one earned run. Eliaz Murti provided solid relief to shut the door and ended up with the win when Tri City temporarily tied the game at four in the 5th.

The bats stayed hot in game two, but the drama intensified. In a nail-biting affair, the Pirates walked it off with a 7-6 win, thanks to a clutch seventh-inning single from Cole James that scored the game-winning run. North Delta built a 3-1 lead early behind RBIs from Curtis, Payton Harper, and Dakota Simicak, but Tri City battled back to tie it in the final frame. Curtis also impressed on the mound, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts. Harper and Simicak led the way offensively with two hits apiece, while Tevin Bentley showed great discipline at the plate, drawing three walks.

Across the two games, North Delta’s lineup proved balanced and relentless. Curtis and James delivered in key moments, while Saunders, Wilson, and Bentley consistently drove in runs. Defensively, the Pirates were sharp, committing no errors in the opener and turning a key double play in the nightcap. Their performance Sunday served as a fitting microcosm of their season: deep, disciplined, and battle-tested.

With the regular season now behind them, the Pirates will shift their focus to the provincial championships, set to begin Thursday in Maple Ridge. In a compelling opener, they'll face off against the North Island Cubs - the very team that edged them out for second in the standings. The top two teams from each pool will advance to Sunday’s semifinals, with the final showdown for provincial gold set for later that day.

After a season filled with grit and highlight-reel performances, the Pirates are poised for a deep postseason run. A provincial title would not only mark a fitting end to their stellar campaign - it would also earn them the honour of representing British Columbia at the Western Canadian Championship in Manitoba this August.
