North Delta Pirates Dominate Opening Day Doubleheader with Complete Team Effort
On a perfect spring afternoon at Mackie Park, the North Delta Pirates kicked off their 2025 campaign in emphatic fashion, sweeping both ends of a season-opening doubleheader against the North Shore Lions. Powered by standout performances on the mound, disciplined at-bats, and aggressive base-running, the North Delta Pirates cruised to 8–0 and 6–1 victories, setting an early tone for what looks to be a promising season.
In Game One, center fielder Payton Harper wasted no time making his presence felt, driving in four runs on a pair of clutch hits. Harper’s two-run double in the first inning opened the scoring, and his two-run single in the fourth punctuated a five-run frame that put the game out of reach. The North Delta Pirates capitalized on 14 walks, with Kesler Curtis and Dakota Simicak each drawing three free passes, and they swiped eight bases as they pressured North Shores’ defense all afternoon.
On the mound, Noah Grant was nearly untouchable. The right-hander fired a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking three. Behind him, the North Delta Pirates were flawless in the field, committing no errors and handling every chance cleanly.
In the nightcap, it was Simicak’s turn to shine—this time on the mound. The two-way standout struck out 12 over seven dominant innings, yielding just two hits and a single run. He also contributed on the base paths, stealing multiple bases in a repeat display of North Delta’s trademark aggressive style.
The North Delta Pirates again got on the board early, with Tevin Bentley driving in a run in the first and Harper adding a sacrifice fly in the third. Harper stayed hot at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Eric Halliburton and Curtis also chipped in with two hits apiece in a 10-hit team performance.
North Delta once again swiped eight bases and remained error-free for the second straight game—an impressive early-season indicator of their sharpness in all facets.
With the sweep, the North Delta Pirates move to 2–0 and will look to carry their momentum into next Saturday’s road matchup against the Chilliwack Cougars. If Opening Day was any indication, the Pirates are a team ready to make waves this season.
